Natural Ways To Relieve Tooth Aches

Toothaches occur when there is any irritation near the nerve in the root of the tooth. There are many reasons why toothache can occur; some may be dental infection, decay, or injury. It is essential to understand why there is sudden discomfort and cure the root cause of it. If you have any minor irritation, you can treat this at home with some tips like saltwater rinse or a cold compress. Let us take a look at a few of the ways of how you can treat your toothache. 

Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse

One of the severe gum infections that can happen is periodontitis, which results from poor oral hygiene. It can make one feel sore and even cause your gums to bleed. Studies have shown that hydrogen peroxide-based mouthwash helps in reducing plaque and symptoms of periodontitis. One can generally use food-grade hydrogen peroxide with equal amounts of water dissolved in it and swish the liquid in your mouth. Do not swallow the liquid. This is not a safe method that children could use as they might drink the liquid. 

Cold Compress

Another tip that many individuals can do quickly on their own by the convenience of their home is using a cold compress. The cold compress will help in reducing toothache to a certain level. To make a cold compress, use a few pieces of ice wrapped in a bit of cloth near the jaw where you are experiencing a toothache. The blood vessel in that affected area is constricted, and this will help reduce pain and help reduce swelling and inflammation. 

Peppermint Tea Bags 

One can also use peppermint tea bags to reduce your toothache. Peppermint tea bags contain menthol, which helps numb the sensation of pain and soothing the gums. Peppermint consists of antibacterial and antioxidants agents present in them. To do this method, one must take a used tea bag and cool it down before applying it to an area affected or feeling the pain. Note that the teabag should be slightly warm and not completely cooled down. You can also cool the tea bag in the freezer and use it as a cold compress. 

Garlic

Garlic is one such food ingredient that you can find in any household, even at night. For thousands of years, garlic has been recognized for its medicinal uses not only to be antibacterial but also helps in relieving toothache. Garlic contains a compound called allicin. This compound allicin is both antibacterial and antimicrobial. Allicin is only generated when the garlic is freshly cut, sliced, or chopped. One cannot find allicin in garlic powder, and hence using garlic powder to cure pain won’t help you. 

One can chew garlic using the affected teeth gently. Allicin is released from the garlic as soon as you chew or bite it. This will kill the bacteria that may be responsible for your pain. One can also use fresh paste and apply it to the affected teeth using a cotton swab. 

Vanilla Extract 

Vanilla extract contains alcohol as one of the chemical compounds present in them. This can be useful in numb pain and can also be used as an antioxidant, making it an effective healer. One can dab a small quantity of vanilla extract on the cotton swab or your finger and apply it directly to the area where you feel the pain. 

Clove

Clove contains Eugenol, which helps in reducing toothache and inflammation. Eugenol present in the clove is an analgesic that helps in numbing the affected area. One can make a paste of clove soaked in warm water and then apply it to the affected area, or chew on a single clove allowing it to sit in the tooth area, which is causing pain and helps you relieve pain. 

Guava Leaves

Guava leaves contain components that have anti-inflammatory properties and help in healing wounds. The antimicrobial agents help in aiding oral care. You can chew the guava leaves or boil crushed guava leaves in water to make a mouthwash. 

Thyme

Thyme contains antioxidants and antibacterial properties embedded in it, which can help cure toothaches—using a few drops of thyme essential oil on cotton balls and applying it to areas affected. 

Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass has numerous healing properties, and it takes care of your body internally. The high chlorophyll content present can be to fight bacteria.
